When water is supplied, 10-15% is lost due to evaporation into air. When it enters soil, it percolates down fast.Often percolating 4-6 feet in a day and goes out of reach of the plant roots.In loose soils, entire water is practically lost within 48 hours. Percolation losses can often be 60-70% of water supplied.
Plant roots extend only up to 30-75 cms. Therefore, they can absorb water around their roots only. In soil, water percolates down beyond their reach within 2 days for potted plants and 2-3 days for nurseries (Depending on humidity and temperature) That means hardly 20%-25% can only be utilised by them before the water is lost due to percolation beyond the reach of their roots.
This has been an unsolved problem for all these thousands of years
Modern science has solved this with an amazing and simple solution - KSAP
KSAP is Poassium Super Absorbent Polymer. It retains water few hundreds of times its own weight and holds it in the form of gel close to the plant's roots. SAP prevents evaporation losses and percolation losses of this water. 100% of the water is utilized. No wastage.
KSAP will be very useful in all types of soils and more necessary for loose soils. One watering will be enough where three or four are needed without SAP.
KSAP WILL HOLD ALL THE FERILIZER APPLIED IN GEL FORM CLOSE TO THE PLANT ROOTS AND THUS ENSURE 100% ABSORBPTION OF IT BY PLANT.
The plant will grow roots into this gel and start absorbing the water and ferilizer.
SAP is most useful for potted plants. They can survive only with three to five times watering per month (Depending on SAP soil ratio). Most useful for busy people or when they go out of town for more than a fortnight.
Choose the pots: ensure one or more holes at the bottom of container for drainage. Use light weight containers. Plastic or fibre-glass which won't absorb water
Choose the potting mix: Do not use soil from the yard or garden. It can. It may contain weed seeds, insects and fungal diseases. Once good soil is chosen, mix it with fertilizer(Try to get time-release fertilizer) and mix Potassium Super absorbent Polymer crystals of right mesh size.
Choose right plants: Choose right plant for right place. Some may need 6 hours sun- like roses. Get advice from experts. Preferably only one plant per pot or atleast ensure same type of plants in one pot.
Watering : Check moisture. Add water slowly while kneading soil mix. Fill the mix into pot.
HOW TO APPLY KSAP FOR PLANTS
For plotted plants and nurseries, mix the SAP with good quality of soil in the ratio of 0.3% KSAP and 99.7% soil. This means when soil is watered, soil and KSAP ratio will be nearly 50:50.
To minimize transplantation shock, first step is to water the plant one hour before taking it out for transplanting. Support the top of the "root ball" (the semi solid mass of soil and roots) by holding with fingers on both sides of the stem; then tip the pot and let the plant fall gently into your hand. Never pull a plant out by its stem.
While re-planting the plant, prepare the pit, pour part of hydrated KSAP and soil mix into pit. Then lower the plant into the pit and fill all around the base of the plant with KSAP soil mix till the roots are covered, and fill the top part with soft soil, leaving top 6-10 centimetrs pit clear so that water can be poured into pit. the plant grows roots into the gels and starts growth after it establishes itself in the new environment.
